Who it’s for

A fireplace on a flat wall faces one direction, and in an open room half the seating never really sees the fire. You need a fire you can see from every seat. If you’re framing a new wall or remodeling and the natural spot for the fire is the corner where your seating meets, this is built for exactly that: glass wraps the right-hand corner, so the fire shows on two sides of the room. That’s the Ortal Wilderness Corner 60H. A standard flat-front fireplace will warm the room just fine; this is the one people turn their chairs toward.

What makes it special

The Wilderness burner is Ortal’s ceramic log fire, and it’s built to read like a wood fire, not a gas appliance—full logs, flame moving through the stack, glowing embers underneath. On the 60H, that fire spans roughly five feet and turns the corner, and built-in interior lighting dims from the remote, so the logs hold a warm glow even when the flame is off.

Every model includes a safety barrier over the glass, and you choose which kind. The standard version is a mesh screen so fine it nearly disappears. Step up to Double Glass and a second pane with quiet fans keeps the outer glass much cooler to the touch—the same fire, safer to be near, which matters with kids or a dog in the room. Either way, set the remote to 70 and the fireplace holds the room there on its own.

Possible downsides

• Runs on household power for its lighting and Double Glass fans, so the fireplace won’t operate during a power outage.
• Right-corner configuration only on this model; if your fire needs to wrap the left corner, Ortal builds a left-side version.
• Built-in only—this is a zero-clearance unit framed into the wall during construction or a remodel, not an insert for an existing fireplace.
